2. Safer Dating.

At Incogno, we say "talk safely, date wisely"

With common sense and practical use of your Incogno, you are making steps to ensure your own personal protection.

We are great supporters of the internet as a fun, exciting way of meeting new friends. However, a small minority of people, as in every walk of life, have the potential to spoil things for the rest of us.

With Incogno you’re now "talking safely" and for your information we’ve put together the following tips on "dating wisely"…

  • In the early days of getting to know each other over the internet, be cautious about giving out personal details such as your address or surname. It has been known for address details to be obtained by just having a telephone number – this is where your Incogno will already be helping.
  • Remember that some people you meet over the internet might not be who they say they are, despite the glossy photo and attractive personal profile. We at Incogno believe that it is critical to engage in early verbal conversation, before arranging a face-to-face meeting – your Incogno can help you achieve this safely too.
  • Instead of using home or work email addresses, set up a temporary email account whilst you are engaged in internet dating, using chat rooms and attending other dating events and activities. Save your personal details until you really know that person.
  • When arranging to meet for the first time, always select a busy meeting point in a public area, preferably in the day time – just until you are sure of the person’s identity and feel comfortable with them.
  • Many people choose to take a friend along, even if just on the very first occasion, to meet your date. Some people work out a pre-arranged signal with the friend to indicate whether you would prefer the friend to stay with you or that you are comfortable enough for them to leave you.
  • Always tell someone where you are going and who with. You should include name, phone number and address and always let someone know when you will be back.
  • Initially don’t go home with your date, don’t invite them back to your home (even if there is someone else at home) and certainly don’t accept a lift with them.
  • Always plan in advance, how you are going to get home. Ensure buses or trains are running on schedule, that you have enough cash for a cab or that your car is parked safely and conveniently with plenty of fuel and in full running order.
  • Follow your gut instincts; if you feel uneasy about someone, there may well be a reason. Don’t tell yourself that you’re being silly, feel under any pressure to stay longer or feel you have to arrange another date. Be careful not to give away personal details about yourself.
  • Don’t hand over personal mobile, home or work phone numbers until you are absolutely ready – your Incogno is there to protect all of these and is much simpler to replace than everything else.
  • Always talk safely and date wisely…
